Bringing A Coaching Culture Into The Workplace.
Coaching in the workplace has become something of a hot topic in recent years. More and more organisations are using coaching strategically to improve the bottom line and business leaders are employing coaches to help them become more effective.
But how do I introduce coaching into the organisation and is it worth the effort and expense?
In recent surveys by CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development), employers rated coaching as one of the most effective tools for developing staff:
- 67% of Organisations using line managers to coach said coaching was “effective” or “very effective”
- 92% of Organisations using external coaches rated it “effective” or “very effective”
- 99% of employers believe coaching can deliver tangible results
- 88% now expect their managers to deliver coaching as part of their role.
And yet…
Those expecting managers to coach do not believe their managers are effective coaches.

It seems that employers generally recognise the benefits that coaching can bring:
- Improved individual performance
- Bottom line results
- Client service and competitiveness
- Development of people; confidence raising, skills, achievement, relationship improvements, and retention.
It seems there is room for both internal and external coaching. The key here is to understand coaching, ensure managers are equipped to coach and that coaching is used strategically to support the business aims.
NoGuru are launching a series of programmes called ‘Coaching Capability’ in October. Accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management these lead to internationally recognised qualifications at 3 levels:
- Team Leader Certificate in Coaching (Level 3 ILM Qualification)
- Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring (Level 5 ILM Qualification)
- Diploma in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring (Level 7 ILM Qualification)
Ideal for employers who want to develop a coaching culture within the organisation or individuals who want to become qualified in business coaching; these programmes combine classroom, self study and live coaching. Importantly, delegates will be able to demonstrate the business case for coaching.
